Fabric Tests + Garment Construction
Design Concept | The brief for this costume was to look like an infectious disease was causing the skin to turn to gold, with crystals growing on the surface of the skin. I began by creating a mesh top that was drafted to fit the actor's measurements with a detachable zipper in the back for quick removal. I then conducted several fabric tests experimenting with forming layers of liquid latex and mesh to create natural wound-like formations.
Creating texture
I used mesh pieces coated in liquid latex to construct dimensional wounds, then blended the edges of the fabric with a mixture of pumice stone and adhesive. I then began adding depth and color to the skin tone by dry brushing red paint on to the latex.
Resin Casting
Dyed and cast epoxy resin gems, then shattered them to create shards of crystal
